Lyrics:
Mama bird, don’t you cry
Your little one will be all right
He needs to stretch his growing wings
And sail off in the sky

Your nest will seem quiet and cold
But your little one and grown to old
He’s yearning for a life out there
To spread his wings and fly

Fly away, fly away
Go have adventures of your own
‘Cause you won’t know until you’ve grown

Looking out to dimming light
As darkening day gives in to night
Clings to tales of yesteryear
But still she questions why

No word yet to rest her fears
As days and months turn into years
Every sound transports her back
And she can’t help but cry

Fly away, fly away
She never saw that you had grown
But she remembered once you’d flown
Fly away, fly away
Why did you fly away?
She can’t believe you flied away

Mama bird, don’t you cry
Your little one will be all right
He needs to stretch his growing wings
And sail off in the sky

Footnotes:
This song was largely inspired by the Beatles’ song “She’s Leaving Home”, one of my favourite Beatles tracks. It continues the “home” theme of the EP by focusing on children leaving home, in this case without so much as a goodbye. Grammatical perfectionists among you may notice that I made a bit of an error in the final chorus, singing “she can’t believe you flied away” instead of “flew away”. It actually took me about nine months to notice my mistake!
