Lyrics
The gates are locked, the lights are off but something’s not quite right:
There’s something evil going on in Disneyland tonight.
The midnight bell is striking as they gather in the square.
They’ll all join up to take us down and plot and scheme and scare!

[chorus]
When the sun goes down at Disneyland, the villains have the floor
To plot their schemes and live their dreams of victory once more.
It’s a world of nightmares like you’ve never seen in your whole life,
‘Cause there’s no hope and they can’t be stopped while the devil looks down from his mountaintop!

The wicked Queen is cackling as Jafar joins in as well,
While Maleficent lets out a scream and calls the powers of hell.
The Shadowman is laughing as his Friends all gather round,
As the shops of Main Street USA become a villain’s town.

[chorus]
Clayton and Cruella eye the animals with glee,
While pirates sail across the lake with Captain Hook and Smee.
When villains come together you know you’re in for a ride,
‘Cause there’s no hope and they can’t be stopped while the devil looks down from his mountaintop!

[chorus]
But just as they prepare themselves to claim their victory,
The first glimpses of sunlight start to break above the trees.
Defeated for another night as goodness conquers sin
But they know that come tomorrow they can do it all again!

Footnotes
You probably know by now that I adore Disney. I especially love Fantasia. I also have quite a liking for the classic song “Devil Went Down To Georgia.” So the formula for Night On Space Mountain was really very simple: Night On Bald Mountain + Devil Went Down To Georgia + Disney villains taking over Disneyland = one kick-ass song. Simple on paper but hard to pull off in reality – I’m still very surprised that it worked so well!
